You’ve got to give BlackBerry credit for refusing to die. After the underwhelming launch and life of BB10, the company pledged allegiance to Android, whipped up a strangely cool slider phone, then farmed out production of all new BlackBerrys to external partners. The journey has been difficult to watch at times, but it seems like the transition is starting to pay off. After a pair of all-touch phones, BlackBerry and partner TCL have released the KEYone, heralding the return of the classic candy-bar-with-keyboard design.

The Priv was an ambitious attempt at a flagship, and the DTEK50 and DTEK60 were barely recognizable as part of the line. The KEYone, however, is the first BlackBerry in years to feel, well, like a BlackBerry. Surprise, surprise: It’s a pretty great little phone, too. Fans will be glad to know the KEYone is the best Android-powered BlackBerry to date, but I don’t expect this to move the needle for many others.

Big phones are a big deal. And the Honor 8 Pro is the company’s largest phone to date, with a whopping 5.7-inch screen wrapped into similar-to-iPhone-7-Plus proportions. If you want screen real estate and resolution then this is the Honor for you.

However, the Pro is a rather different proposition to the mid-level, smaller-scale Honor 8. The Pro is obviously larger, but it also does away with the hallmark ultra-gloss rear in favour of a softer blue matte option (black and gold are also available). It still looks great, but lacks that core point of distinction of the original.

It’s not often a phone is revealed in a green color finish. Or “greenery” to give it full credit. Which, as it so happens, is Pantone’s color of the year 2017. It’s also Huawei’s oh-so-on-trend color for its brand new P10 smartphone.

Yes, ok, so you’re staring at blue version of the device for this review (technically “dazzling blue” in Huawei speak) – but this one is actually the best-looking color of the lot (mystic silver, graphite black and dazzling gold will also join the UK line-up).

Apple’s new (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and 7 Plus went on sale online and in retail stores around the world today, and after a short wait in line, we managed to get our hands on one of the new devices.

Made from a matte red aluminum, the red iPhone 7 is super pigmented and bright in real life, but aside from its snazzy new casing, it’s identical to existing devices.

Windows laptops have a bit of an identity problem. Everyone knows about MacBooks, but a lot of people who ask us for advice don’t even know where to start when looking to Windows after seeing the latest MacBook prices.

The Dell XPS 15 is that place to start. It has a solid claim to the title of “ultimate Windows 10 laptop”, with a large screen, decent gaming chops and a design that – while a bit more serious than Apple’s style – has a luxury edge.

Some early reviewers of the Samsung Chromebook Pro characterized it as a “MacBook killer,” but others were more restrained in their enthusiasm. Jointly developed with Google and first demoed at CES 2017, the Chromebook Pro is slated for release next month.

Samsung’s Chromebooks basically are lightweight productivity tools that rely heavily on access to cloud-based resources. They have gained popularity in the enterprise for use with remote workers and in educational settings as entry-level computing tools.

However, they “are no Mac killers,” said Werner Goertz, a research director at Gartner.

Acer Spin 5 review An affordable all-rounder

Tech is getting more expensive. Apple, Tesla, Nescafe and just about every other company out there has either already put up prices in the UK, or is planning to do so.

That makes laptops like the Acer Spin 5 all the more important. Normal folk who were on the cusp of buying a MacBook last year are being priced out like Brixton flat buyers, so more affordable laptops such as this are there to take care of the wounded.

Android Nougat on Samsung Galaxy S7

Samsung started the Android Nougat roll-out for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge last week, but only members of the Galaxy Beta Program could get it right away. That changes today, as Samsung is finally making the much-awaited update available to more users, starting in China and UK.

After installing the hefty Android Nougat update on my Galaxy S7 edge, it became immediately clear that Samsung has put in a lot of effort to deliver a much more user-friendly experience.
