John McAfee might have shifted his business to capital investments after his antivirus company was acquired by Intel. He even had to go to court as he lost rights to use the McAfee brand name. The entrepreneur still has some obsession left for security.

McAfee, who is now the CEO of MGT Capital Investments, has uploaded the first prototype image of the “John McAfee Privacy Phone” on twitter which he calls the “world’s first truly private smartphone.”

HTC will unveil its new flagship Android smartphone on Tuesday 16 May but has already confirmed its name and one of the handset’s long-rumoured new features: squeezable sides.

The company has posted an official teaser video for the phone, entitled “HTC Squeeze the Brilliant U”, which follows up on a previous tweet and invitation to watch the launch event live.

Added to the invite for the launch event, received by Pocket-lint last week, it cements the name, “HTC U”.

Details on the new entry-level Moto E phones from Lenovo-owned Motorola have leaked out.

The upcoming budget smartphones, likely called a Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus, will be Android 7.1 devices, according to the German website Winfuture.de. The smaller Moto E4 will not be too different from last year’s Moto E3, as it’ll feature the same 5-inch HD display and 2,800mAh battery. It will however have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, whereas the Moto E3 only had 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

It is easy to look back on technology changes and see that we had plenty of warnings that we clearly missed at the time. VCRs gave way to DVD players, which in turn have given way to streaming services. Brick cellphones evolved into flip phones, which were swapped out for two-way pager phones and then wiped out by the iPhone model. Tape players gave way to the Walkman CD player, which gave way to the iPod, which also ended up in the iPhone model.

Sometimes, trends that seem obvious fail to materialize. Laser disks never got to critical mass before DVDs arrived on the scene, and 3D TV, which seemed so obviously next, wasn’t.

A new strain of malware targeting Linux systems, dubbed “Linux/Shishiga,” could morph into a dangerous security threat.

Eset on Tuesday disclosed the threat, which represents a new Lua family unrelated to previously seen LuaBot malware.

Linux/Shishiga uses four different protocols — SSH, Telnet, HTTP and BitTorrent — and Lua scripts for modularity, wrote Detection Engineer Michal Malik and the Eset research team in an online post.

Less than two weeks after the specs leaked online, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi 6 flagship smartphone. The Mi 6 doesn’t quite compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 or LG G6 when it comes to screen-to-body ratio, nor does it follow in the design footsteps of Xiaomi’s own Mi MIX.

The Mi 6 instead has a four-sided curved glass screen, with bezels top and bottom and slim ones flanking the 5.15-inch full HD display.

Screaming sirens serenaded Dallas residents in the early morning hours Saturday after a cyberattack set off the city’s emergency warning system.

All of the city’s 156 sirens were set off more than a dozen times, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Officials have not yet identified the perpetrator of the attack, the city’s Office of Emergency Management Director Rocky Vaz told the newspaper, but he expressed confidence that it was someone outside the Dallas area.
